PUC 1 & 2 Technologies Deployed and Integrated On the Ship

The ISOLA project partners recently gathered on the designated ship for the Pilot Use Cases (PUC) 1 & 2, dedicating a full day to integration and preparation activities. This meeting was a crucial step, allowing each partner to install and rigorously test their systems in a real-world setting. The day’s primary focus was on establishing and evaluating the communication links between the various services, a critical aspect for the overall success of the project.

Confronted with the unique challenges inherent to the maritime environment, the team displayed exceptional adaptability and problem-solving skills. They successfully navigated these difficulties, ensuring the seamless operation of all tools and systems in this specialized context. This collaborative effort yielded highly positive results, marking a significant milestone in the progress of the ISOLA project.

This successful integration and testing day not only demonstrated the technical viability of the project but also strengthened the collaboration between the partners. The achievements of this day have laid a solid foundation for the next stages of ISOLA, reinforcing the project’s potential to innovate in the field of maritime security. The team is now better prepared to face upcoming challenges and continue making substantial advancements in the project.

CERTH Represents ISOLA at PALAEMON Workshop https://isola-project.eu/certh-represents-isola-at-palaemon-workshop/ Mon, 28 Nov 2022 08:15:13 +0000 https://isola-project.eu/?p=3861

CERTH presented the ISOLA project at the PALAEMON workshop

The PALAEMON project aims to enhance the current evacuation systems on passenger ships by developing and introducing a Smart Evacuation Management approach through the combination of cutting edge IT and network technologies. The objective of this workshop is to inform policy-makers, researchers and industry stakeholders on the latest developments in the area of maritime safety and security, specifically on the technology-assisted emergency, incident and crowd management in the passenger ships sector. The workshop will identify critical technology needs and design principles for emerging intelligent evacuation management technologies.

Goals & Objectives:

  • Explain to the broader community the PALAEMON’s project main outcomes, and report on the projects’ objectives and achievements until now, and receive feedback
  • Conversate with other EU projects in this area, and active researchers from abroad, to identify the challenges encountered in the maritime emergency systems, while drawing analogies from the design of evacuation management systems in large public infrastructures (airports etc)
  • Present and highlight the role of ICT, smart situation-awareness, personalized emergency messaging and real time emergency guidance technologies, to the enhancement of mass evacuation management processes

Border Security Workshop by Frontex https://isola-project.eu/border-security-workshop-by-frontex/ Sat, 22 May 2021 06:56:58 +0000 http://isola-project.eu/?p=3696

Border Security Workshop by Frontex

We are delighted to announce that ISOLA project (scope, challenges, objectives) was presented on the first day of the workshop to discuss ongoing border security projects organized by FRONTEX on 20-21 May 2021 as part of the EU Horizon framework. The aim of the activity was to bring together the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG) community with selected Research and Innovation projects and to provide feedback from an operational perspective.

Second Stakeholder Workshop for EU Project PALAEMON https://isola-project.eu/palaemon/ Thu, 15 Apr 2021 09:37:25 +0000 http://isola-project.eu/?p=3723

Second Stakeholder Workshop for EU Project PALAEMON

We are delighted to announce that our project ISOLA was invited to participate in the second workshop for stakeholders’ requirements of the EU project PALAEMON (https://palaemonproject.eu/) which was held on 14 April 2021. PALAEMON is a holistic and ground-breaking approach to ship evacuation. It proposes the development and evaluation of a sophisticated mass centralized evacuation system, based on a radical re-thinking of Mass Evacuation Vessels (MEVs) combined with an intelligent ecosystem.

The Workshop aimed to present the PALAEMON ecosystem, to validate the first version of PALAEMON architecture and to provide the concept of the main PALAEMON components. It was a great opportunity to discuss the goals of both projects, to exchange opinions and discuss common issues, which could probably lead to a future collaboration. This is enhanced due to the fact that PALAEMON and ISOLA projects try to follow a similar approach on complementary to each other issues (safety for PALAEMON, security for ISOLA) and that there are some common partners like the Coordinator Airbus Defense & Space (ADS), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA),  Software IMAgination and Vision (SIMAVI) and Anonymi Naftiliaki Eteria Kritis (ANEK).

Second Secure Societies by EREA https://isola-project.eu/p2pkos/ Wed, 24 Mar 2021 09:21:05 +0000 http://isola-project.eu/?p=3712

Second Secure Societies by European Research Executive Agency

We are delighted to announce that ISOLA project participated in the second Secure Societies “project to policy kick off seminar” (P2PKOS) that took place virtually on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 March 2021, which was organized by European Research Executive Agency.
The main objective of this seminar was to highlight the European Commission developing policies linked to security aspects (e.g. DG ECHO, HOME, ENV, SANTE, ENER, TAXUD etc.) and improve their interaction with research projects that are working on these pillars. The research projects that participated were funded under the Secure Societies call 2019 and the goal was to ensure that relevant policy drivers are understood and possibly integrated from the early phase of the project. In this way, the policy relevant results from your projects would be communicated effectively and timely. In addition, it was also a very good opportunity for similar projects to acquaint the other projects with similar research goals and possible create synergies. During this two-day meeting, representatives from 43 H2020 projects working on security domain participated.
ISOLA’s coordinator (AIRBUS) and Scientific & Technical Manager (CERTH) presented the related policy frameworks, which are induced by International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) and relevant state and member, state agencies (DG MARE, DG MOVE, EMSA, Ministries of Maritime and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs)). Furthermore, the project’s challenge, objectives, approach, expected results and the participation of the end-users were briefly analyzed.
